The presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, harshly criticized the national teaching strike launched on Monday, March 4 after the failed negotiation between the Government, the unions and the provincial Ministers of Education. It is “aberrant, reprehensible and questionable,” he said of the measure of force.
He also pointed out against the co-secretary general of the General Central of Workers (CGT), Pablo Moyano: “It’s part of the pastfrom a union leadership that did a lot of damage to Argentina.”

“Part of unionism must explain why they managed to earn miserable salaries, in the informal sector, and why companies do not want to invest. What Pablo Moyano says, in terms of whether we govern or tweet, at this point it matters little to us,” he added in reference to the union leader. The CGT leader had fully charged against President Javier Milei: “He spends his time tweeting and pressuring governors.”

The union leaders rejected the Government’s position this Wednesday and denounced the lack of answers regarding salary. “What worries me is that they charge $250,000, and now less due to the lack of contributions. There are thousands of teachers who have that salary, who is below the poverty line, and they are heads of the family,” said Sergio Romero, head of the Union of Argentine Teachers (UDA) and secretary of educational policies of the CGT.
Romero also described the meeting he had with the Government as «a waste of time». In this sense, he denounced: “They didn’t offer anything. It was a dialogue of the deaf and at one point they even wanted to deny the equal scope.”

“The Secretary of Education has little management autonomy, he had us a long time without making any contribution. “This forces us to make this decision,” he added.
The request made by the Argentine Union of Private Teachers (SADOP), the Association of Technical Teaching Teachers (AMET), the Confederation of Argentine Educators (CEA), and the Confederation of Education Workers (CTERA) was a increase in the minimum teacher salary and that they are guaranteed continuity of the National Teacher Incentive Fund (FONID). However, the unions assure that there were no responses.
