As part of the strategies that the Municipality of Gualeguaychú has been carrying out to combat dengue in the city, the Undersecretary of Health contacted the Faculty of Bromatology of the National University of Entre Ríos, with the aim of collaborating in the development, production and distribution of a local mosquito repellent.
Alert in Gualeguaychú due to the proliferation of Dengue: there are more than 70 people under study
The initiative, which is part of an extension project of the Faculty of Food Science and coordinated by the pharmacist Silvina Cabrera, is worked with UNER students, who have already had previous experience in the preparation and delivery of mosquito repellent.
On this occasion, they will once again be in charge of formulating and preparing this repellent that will be distributed in the city. For its part, The municipality will be in charge of providing the supplies necessary for the preparation and subsequent distribution free of charge.
The product will have as its active ingredient the same compound used in those on the market, and its formula will be concentrated to achieve greater permanence.
It was further indicated that The locally made product does not contain lemongrass.and is made based on diethyltoluamide, which is the active compound, plus others such as alcohol and glycerin.
This work results in an important reduction in the cost structure of repellent productionand, furthermore, the possibility of expanding the effective development of this public health policy for the benefit of the entire community within the framework of community transmission of dengue.
