The Workers from the Huachipato Steel Company met this Wednesday afternoon with the Minister of Economy, Nicolas Grauto seek solutions to its announced closure.

In detail, they indicated that now the firm – belonging to the CAP group – must present the appeal to the Price Anti-Distortion Commission, so that later the Government convenes the instance again and So, through that way, the tariff surcharge on Chinese steel can be raised.

This is the path that the company is looking for, so the Government, given that it is a private conflict, there is nothing left but to settle.

The Antidistortion Commissiondependent on the Ministry of Economy, announced last Tuesday the application of the safeguard to Chilean steel. Although the measure was valued by the company, it specified that «unfortunately, the defined rates are lower than those requested«, which caused suspend operations indefinitely.

Likewise, it was Grau himself who ruled out this day that the Executive would sponsor the option of nationalizing the steel industry.
