After sharing the main event for the 42nd anniversary of the war in the Falkland Islands together with president Javier Milei, the vice president Victoria Villarruel He will lead his own tribute this Wednesday in the Senate, where a series of commemorative activities are taking place this week.

Starting at 4 p.m. in the Blue Room of the Upper House, Villarruel will present Diplomas of Honor to a dozen veterans of the Malvinas war, to the National Commission of Ex-combatants of the Malvinas and to the Commission of Relatives of the Fallen in the Malvinas and South Atlantic Islands.

The vice president (who appeared emotional during the ceremony at the cenotaph located in Plaza San Martín, in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Retiro) is the daughter of retired lieutenant colonel Eduardo Marcelo Villarruel, who was the second chief of the 602nd Command Company and died in 2021.

“42nd Anniversary of the Recovery of the Malvinas Islands. In an impeccable military operation without shedding enemy blood, our soldiers raised the Argentine Flag after 149 years of English occupation. Captain Pedro Giachino died in that operation. Within the framework of “Malvinas Week”, the Senate will continue during the week with activities organized by the Malvinas Gesta Directorate. In addition, the balconies of the Legislative Palace remain illuminated in blue during the first three days of April.

During the central event this Tuesday, in which Cabinet ministers, the head of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem, and the head of the Buenos Aires Government, Jorge Macri, also participated, Milei called on all political parties and society to a “ new era of reconciliation” of Argentines with the Armed Forces.

In addition, he invited the heads of the three forces and the Malvinas veterans to participate as witnesses and guarantors of the signing of the May 25 Pact in Córdoba.
